Frequently Asked Questions Q. Who should take lessons?
A.
Everyone who wants to increase their skill level, or just want to develop
a solid foundation for their pool game. Whether you are just starting out, or
are already an accomplished player, lessons from a professional instructor will
give you the tools you need to become a better player. Q. Which class should I take? A. That depends on both your present skill level and your personal goals for your game. The beginning level class is designed for those who are new to the game. It focuses on the basic skills of having a proper stroke, and proper aiming techniques. If you want to be able to play socially, and are not interested in becoming a competitive player in leagues or tournaments, this might be the class for you. The Advanced class goes in depth to help fine tune all the fundamentals. In addition, the class teaches students how to control the cue ball for position after making a shot, the mental aspects of competition level play, and some of the basic geometry and physics. The concepts covered will allow the student to understand how and why things happen on the pool table, and how to take control of the table. Anyone who plays in leagues or tournaments will benefit greatly from this class. The Expert
class is strictly for the seriously competitive players who have completed the
Advanced class. Specialty shots such as jump shots and masse’ shots are fully
covered. Advanced aiming techniques, effective breaking, eliminating the “choke
factors”, and much more are included. The skills learned in the Advanced class
should be well established in order to fully benefit from this class. Q. How long is the class?
A.
Class times vary depending on the student. There is a specific amount of
information in each class, and student learning times will be different.
Classes will continue until all the information has been covered to both the
student’s and instructor’s satisfaction. As a general guideline, the Beginner’s
class will take about 5 hours, the Advanced and Expert class anywhere from 10
to 15 hours each. The Advanced and Expert classes can be broken down into short
workshops, or completed in one weekend, depending on the student’s preference. Q. Are individual lessons available?
A.
Yes. If you have a pool table at home, and would prefer private lessons,
arrangements can be made for us to come to you. If you are out of town, some
additional charges to cover travel expenses may be required. Q. Are there any discounts available? A. Yes. If you have a friend who would like to take the class with you, you can both receive reduced tuition.
A.
You need to understand that nobody can teach you how to play pool. These
classes will give you the tools and guidance necessary for you to learn how to
play pool. There is no magic formula other than your willingness to learn the
concepts and then apply them during focused practice sessions. The instructor
is charged with giving you everything you need to start building your personal
game. The student must take the responsibility to put the knowledge and skills
to work in order to get any benefit from the class. Q. I’m ready. What is the next step? A. Call and get registered in a class. Most classes are taught on the weekends. To find out when the next class will be held, call Steve at 980 253-0211, or e-mail steve@s-sbilliards.com for details.
